Lormina Salter Fellowship Solo Exhibition
July 8 - August 21, 2016
The figurative ceramic works by the 2015-2016 Lormina Salter Fellowship Artist, Travis Winters, depict stories from mundane day-to-day living and struggles of life. By deriving work around narratives, he is fabricating stories about human nature, universal experiences and his own personal understanding of the world around him. By creating comical figures he is initiating a non-threatening conversation about topics common within our culture. He encourages an intimate connection with the characters by inviting various interpretations and personal narratives from the viewers. Through modeling his figures in a stylized yet realistic manner with exaggerated folds and wrinkles, he is creating a visceral experience that entices the viewer to closely examine the figures.
