Former Resident Artist (2011-2012 Lormina Salter Fellow)
Shalya Marsh is the recipient of the 2010–11 Lormina Salter Fellowship. She earned a B.F.A. in Ceramics from the State University of New York at New Paltz and has participated in numerous residencies and workshops including a Kiln God Residency at Watershed, a Studio Assistantship at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and Penland School of Crafts. Her sculptures express the intrinsic limitation that language places on communication, through the use of decipherable codes and symbols. The viewer is invited to literally decode the piece’s nonsensical pangrams and whimsical definitions, and her work has been exhibited regionally and nationally.
